Your Store Bought Fabric Softener Is Toxic! Make Your Own at Home
Fabric softeners are nice, there’s no doubt about that.
They make our clothes so soft and fragrant. But the chemicals needed to make that happen in commercial fabric softeners are gross!
They produce harmful toxins that are especially dangerous for children. The most notorious are VOCs, or Volatile Organic Compounds. The EPA considers them a likely carcinogen.
If that’s not enough to get you to stop buying fabric softener, how’s this? You’ll save money. Who doesn’t want that? Home made fabric softener works just as well and saves you money. You will need:
- 10 grams of baking soda
- 200 ml of hot water
- 800 ml of apple cider or white vinegar
- 20 drops of the essential oil of your choice
Instructions:
In a large container, combine water, baking soda, essential oil and apple cider vinegar in the bowl. The mixture will release bubbles. That’s normal. When the liquid settles, store in a jarĀ and use as a fabric softener normally.
Be sure to shake well before every use for the best effect.
